With deep sadness, we share the passing of Denise Gibbons, a Phoenix-based Flight Attendant whose extraordinary career with American Airlines spanned more than four decades. For over 40 years, Denise exemplified the highest standards of professionalism, dedication, and service, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to fly or work alongside her—including the countless passengers and frequent flyers whose journeys she made more memorable through her kindness and care.

Throughout her remarkable career, Denise became a familiar and cherished presence among her fellow Flight Attendants. She was widely respected for her calm leadership, professionalism, and genuine compassion. Many colleagues came to know Denise best while flying to and from London, where she served as a Purser with grace, confidence, and an exceptional commitment to both her crew and passengers. She had a remarkable ability to make every flight run seamlessly, fostering teamwork, mentoring fellow Flight Attendants, and creating an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and support that made everyone feel welcome.

Denise also had the distinct honor of participating in aircraft proving runs—operational trials conducted to demonstrate to aviation regulatory authorities that a new aircraft, its crew, and its supporting systems could safely perform under real-world operating conditions before entering commercial service. Being selected for these important flights reflected the tremendous trust placed in Denise’s experience, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Away from the aircraft, Denise embraced life with the same determination and enthusiasm that defined her career. She became an avid marathon runner, dedicating herself to the challenge of long-distance running with remarkable discipline and perseverance. Her passion for the sport reflected the resilience, strength, and positive spirit that so many admired. Whether crossing a marathon finish line or completing another successful flight, Denise approached every challenge with grace, commitment, and a quiet determination to always give her very best.
