Dear InfoReps:
I would like to take this opportunity today, my first day in office, to personally thank you for your commitment to the InfoRep program. Your participation is invaluable not only to APFA but also to the collective bargaining process. Keeping the membership unified and informed is essential to securing a successful contract. During negotiations the goal of this program will be to get information to you quickly for immediate dissemination to the membership.
This morning I delivered via courier a letter to Gerard Arpey and his top four executives challenging them to keep the promises they made to us in 2003. In my letter, I urge them to forgo their bonuses until the membership of APFA, APA and TWU have ratified new collective bargaining agreements. Should they refuse to decline their bonuses, I’ve asked them to resign their positions with AMR Corp and American Airlines.
I have also sent a letter, with a hangtag enclosed, to the membership asking them to join in the challenge by wearing the hangtag with the words ‘DECLINE’ under their AA ID badge. If the executives refuse, we would like the tags turned around asking them to ‘RESIGN’. This is their ‘Career Decision Day’.
As quoted on Jetnet…ìThe Career Decision Day (CDD) reflects American’s commitment to a positive system that treats employees fairly … It gives the employee the opportunity to evaluate his or her personal standards, and a final chance to turn failure into success.” In addition, this Friday, April 4th, local APFA Representatives are scheduled to be in the operation area of all base cities discussing the campaign and handing out information to members. I encourage all InfoReps to join their local leaders in support of this campaign against corporate greed.
Attached to this e-mail are three PDF files; Executive Decline-Resign Letter, Membership Decline-Resign Campaign Letter and the Press Release announcing the campaign. Please share these with your crews and encourage everyone to wear the hangtag when it arrives in the mail. It is imperative we show a united front. We have sacrificed enough. Now is our time and our turn to restore our lost wages and benefits, as management has already restored theirs.
In Solidarity,
Laura Glading
