Arizona Earned Paid Sick Time

PHX-based Flight Attendants can now utilize up to forty (40) hours of paid sick leave annually to cover absences due to personal medical conditions, care for eligible family members, or other qualifying reasons outlined in the Arizona Earned Paid Sick Time Policy.

Please note that you will begin accruing Arizona Paid Sick Time retroactively from October 1, 2024, through the end of December 2024. For every thirty (30) hours worked, you will earn one (1) hour of Arizona Paid Sick Time.

Starting on December 3, 2024, your total accrued hours for October will be sent to your company email. You will also receive a monthly recap email detailing your accrued Arizona Paid Sick Time balance. New hire Flight Attendants may begin using AZ Earned Paid Sick time 90 days after their start date.

If you need to use your accrued AZ sick time, continue to call out sick by contacting Crew Scheduling. Then, submit your recode request using the AZ Paid Sick Recode Request form in Comply365 > My Forms > Inflight Admin Requests > AZ Paid Sick Recode Request.

If you have been absent due to illness and have accrued Arizona (AZ) sick hours, you need to submit the AZ Paid Sick Recode Request form in Comply365 to request a recode for your absence. Please note that absences recoded as Arizona Paid Sick Time will not be considered chargeable occurrences.

State sick leave can only be used for future absences and cannot be applied to past absences. It is important to request an absence recode using state sick hours as soon as possible, and within a reasonable timeframe after you return to work. This includes the following situations:

• Flying a Sequence
• Reserve Availability Period (RAP) or Airport Standby
• Attending Company Training, including CQ
• Special Assignment (SA)
• Company Business or Union Leave

If you do not submit a recode request within 30 days of your absence, your AZ Paid Sick will be applied to your applicable absences. Any unused AZ sick hours from 2024 will carry over to 2025 and will count toward your annual 40-hour allotment.

Starting January 1, 2025, and continuing every January 1 thereafter, the Company will provide eligible Flight Attendants with 40 hours of AZ Paid Sick leave for each calendar year, which runs from January 1 to December 31. AZ Paid Sick is not an additional bank of hours. Any sick leave you take will be deducted from your existing sick bank.

If on January 1 you have 40 or more hours in your sick bank, that amount will count as your allotment of Arizona Earned Paid Sick Time for that calendar year.

If you have fewer than 40 hours in your sick bank on January 1, the Company will credit your sick leave bank to ensure that you have a total of 40 hours available for that year. This total will also be considered your allotment of Arizona Earned Paid Sick Time. Should the Company credit your sick bank with additional hours on January 1, you will be required to “pay back” the credited hours as you accrue paid sick leave under any applicable Company policy or agreement.

For example, if you have 10 hours in your Company paid sick bank on January 1, the Company will add an additional 30 hours to your sick bank, giving you a total of 40 hours. If you accrue 4.5 sick hours in January, then on February 1, you will still have a total of 40 hours available for AZ Paid Sick (not 44.5 hours), assuming you did not take any sick leave in January. Additional hours of paid sick leave will not be added to your sick bank until you have first accrued an amount equal to the hours the Company credited on January 1.
