Voluntary Leaves of Absence (VLOA)
The Company is offering full-month unpaid VLOAs for the month of January. MIA is planning to award 72 unpaid VLOAs.
Bidding for January VLOAs closes December 7 at 1300 (ET). Check your HI-10 after 1800 (ET) on December 7. The bidding ballot is in:
Comply365 > My Forms > AAFA > FA Voluntary Leave of Absence (VLOA)
Status Information
- Lineholder: If your status indicates you are a Lineholder then you will be considered a Lineholder when they process VLOAs regardless of your toggle onto Reserve. If awarded as a Lineholder, you will be set as Inactive in the LRD tool, a toggle to RSV will not be considered, and you will not receive credit for Reserve.
- Reserve: If your status indicates you are a Reserve then you will be a Reserve in processing.
- Tentative: If you are designated Tentative, the default in LRD is Lineholder so you will be processed as a Lineholder.
Eligibility for VLOA
VLOAs are awarded with your seniority, at our base: Lineholders are awarded until all available leaves are awarded or there are no more requests. If there are still more leaves after Lineholders, then Reserves are awarded.
VLOAs not awarded: If you are on an absence ending on or after January 1 or have expired qualifications you will not be awarded.
Benefits, Seniority, and Travel
Seniority: You will continue to accrue all seniorities; company, pay, and bidding.
Benefits: On VLOA you will accrue vacation and sick time. You will continue to pay your normal contribution rates for Medical/Vision/Dental/Life insurances, but since you will not receive a paycheck, you will be billed.
Travel: Your travel privileges will remain the same as if you are active. This includes D1 and other airlines (OAL).
Reserve Credit: If you are awarded a VLOA as a Reserve, you will NOT get credit for the month (CBA 12.A.4.b.). Probationary Flight Attendants awarded a VLOA will have the probationary period extended by the number of days of the leave.
General
If you have a carry-over trip from December in to January, you are responsible for that trip. You may fly it or drop it. If you are awarded a VLOA and subsequently drop a carry-over trip, you should notify the Base Planner via the FA Support Tab on Crew Portal so they can adjust the start of your leave.
Any scheduled vacation in January will be paid as though you are active.
Incentive Point and Holiday Pay 2024 – 2025
Flight attendants that work all operational assignments (sequences, standby, RAPs, and special assignments) and have no absences or removals (sick, FMLA, jury duty, military, PO, bereavement, etc.), including pre/planned absences and removals, on days during the critical period will accrue one incentive point to be used for a future event.
New Contractual language states that if either the departure time of the flight (local station time) or the arrival time of the flight (local station time) touches or was scheduled to touch the actual holiday, holiday pay would apply to the entire segment flown.
Charters
With the implementation of new CBA language, some charters require a two-hour sign-in prior to departure. You will receive an additional 1.15 hours of pay (PNC).
The additional will appear as a separate line item on your HI1 and pay may not be added until Crew Comp makes the adjustment at close-out, usually by the 9th of the next month.
Inflight Website
The company is slowly sunsetting the Inflight website. Everything will be eventually transferred to Crew Portal and/or Comply 365.
“Upcoming Events” are now on Crew Portal. You can change your setting to “Display Upcoming Events” on your calendar. Once set, the dates on the calendar with events will have a shaded circle. When you hover over the date with the shade circle, the details of the event will populate. Here is how to find the toggle:
In addition to toggling to allow upcoming events to display on your calendar, all upcoming events can be viewed by clicking the carrot on the “Upcoming Events” tab.
