What You Should Know

We understand the ongoing confusion surrounding jumpseat (JS) access for Flight Attendants on weight-restricted flights, particularly when Flight Attendants at the top of the standby (SB) list are being denied access to the jumpseat.

Our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) clearly states that jumpseat access must be handled fairly and without discrimination. Flight Attendants should not be treated differently from Pilots when weight restrictions are in place.

Earlier this year, the Company clarified that if taxi fuel burn can lift a weight restriction, the SB list should still be followed, regardless of whether the jumpseat is located in the cabin or the flight deck.

Both APFA and APA have filed Presidential Grievances on this issue. Until both grievances are resolved, conflicting interpretations may continue to create confusion at the gate. This is why your reports are invaluable.

If you are denied the jumpseat on a weight-restricted flight, despite being at the top of the SB list, and someone else is accommodated instead, please send us the following:

• A screenshot of the standby list showing your position
• The flight number, date, and time
• Any details about what occurred
• Email this information to: [email protected] (Subject Line: JS)

This will allow us to file a Notice of Dispute on your behalf and attach it to our ongoing grievance.
