Our Focus in 2024Â
As we step into a new year and keep our focus on securing a contract that we have rightfully earned, the base council is striving hard to improve the overall representation we provide to you. Our biggest challenge lies in effectively communicating with you amidst the plethora of platforms that are available to us for information sharing. As the base president, I fully comprehend that communication is not just important but is a crucial factor in how management perceives us. Every new idea and initiative brings along with it a host of challenges and managerial issues that take precedence over writing a brief. However, we know we need a council that is well-rounded, with strong representation and consistent communication. We have already delivered on the first and most important aspect, and in the year 2024, we aim to enhance our communication with you even further. Your trust and patience are what motivates us every day.
Your Most Important RightÂ
As a Flight Attendant and member of the APFA, you have a powerful tool that management cannot take from you. This tool is in Section 35.F. of the JCBA, which gives you the right to union representation during an interview or any conversation that could lead to discipline. This right applies to all flight attendants, including NEW HIRES ON PROBATION.
It is important to remember that anything under this management team can lead to discipline. Therefore, when any member of management contacts you via email, text, or in person regarding your attendance or performance, request union representation. All members of management in New York are aware of how to contact a local union rep, including the base president and vice president. So, don’t hesitate to use your rights under JCBA Section 35.F to protect yourself. I suggest you put our base email in your contacts for future needs. [email protected]
Our Future is on the Ballot
It’s election time for the National Officers Runoff Elections of 2024, and many of us may have already received our ballots. This election holds great significance for our union and its future. The number of voters who participate is directly proportional to the pressure we can put on American Airlines to negotiate a fair contract. When we vote in large numbers, we show our strength and our willingness to go on strike if necessary. Please take the time to cast your vote, and if you encounter any issues, please don’t hesitate to contact the APFA National Ballot Committee at [email protected].
I often receive messages from colleagues asking for my opinion on which candidates to vote for in our union elections. However, the best way to contribute to our union is to take some time to read through the bio of each candidate on the APFA website and reach out to them directly via their campaign email if you have any questions. It’s important to get to know those who are running for office and representing us, rather than just picking a name from a list.
The New York LGA Base Council thanks every candidate for stepping up to serve the membership in the National Officer Elections.
We are seeking a NY Base Techie
If you are someone who is passionate and well-informed about technology, particularly social media technology, and would like to assist your membership, we would like to offer you the opportunity to join our base council as a NY Social Media Base Council Representative. We have some exciting plans for our base to create modern and attractive initiatives where members can participate and represent our base.
Please send an email to me at [email protected]Â for further information.
