2.22.25 – APFA LGA Base Brief – In Memoriam: Robert Buckner & Eileen Clifford

Remembering Flight Attendants Robert Buckner and Eileen Vacquilar Clifford
Saturday, February 22, 2025
On behalf of all the Flight Attendants in New York, we express our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Robert Buckner.
As the local base president, one of the most difficult tasks is processing the loss of a colleague. We often find ourselves with limited opportunities to truly honor our members, each of whom deserves it, out of respect for the member and their loved ones. Robert brought something special to New York, truly embodying the spirit of our base. He had a unique ability to make everything feel all right just with his gentle and comforting presence.
A little over five years ago, I was fortunate enough to experience Robert’s gift of spreading positivity and calm to everyone he encountered. In a brief conversation with him at the airport, and without him even knowing I had just lost my dad, he left an impression on me that I carry to this day. He didn’t say much, but his classy, humble, and respectful demeanor touched everyone around him.
Robert, thank you for sharing your love, kindness, and the memories we will cherish until we reunite. Fly high; New York will keep your name and memory alive.
It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our former colleague, Eileen Vacquilar Clifford, a member of the class of 1979.
Eileen was an innocent, kind, and gentle soul who instantly drew people in. Her heart was pure, and she dedicated her life to serving others. Eileen had a wonderful ability to laugh at herself, and her infectious smile could brighten any room. She recognized the humanity in everyone, even in our most challenging passengers.
After her retirement, Eileen founded the Kiwi Club of Long Island, a philanthropic organization for current and former flight attendants, established in 2013. Over the years, she held various roles within the club, including president, secretary, treasurer, and senior advisor.
Eileen received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush, and she was also recognized by then-Senator Hillary Clinton for her outstanding fundraising efforts. These honors reflect her legacy as a passionate advocate for her community.
On behalf of the entire LGA Base Council, we extend our deepest condolences to Eileen’s family and friends. We will always cherish Eileen’s memory, and she will forever remain in our hearts.
In Solidarity,
Christian M. Santana
