6.10.25 – APFA BOS Base Brief – One Size Fits None

One Size Fits None
No Leader. No Contact. No Plan.
Tuesday, June 10, 2025
Boston Flight Attendants,
Yesterday marked the beginning of American Airlines’ new “management restructure” campaign. Today is another prime example of how the company continues their pattern of incompetence by neglecting to meet their own policies, procedures, and deadlines.
Unilaterally uprooting the entire management system and leaving bases without a primary point of contact or leader is unacceptable and detrimental to our flight attendants, along with the operation. As of yesterday all Flight Attendants in Boston report to the Base Manager, a position that has yet to be filled. Had they asked their Flight Attendants what they needed from their managers it’s hard to imagine the answer would have been more gate side visits and a “one size fits all” performance program. Rather they would have heard our frustrations with managers who cannot answer basic questions about bidding systems, State Leave policies, pay-protections, and a dozen more critical topics. It would be disappointing if their performance regarding this “restructure” was not completely predictable.
The company however doesn’t struggle with deadlines when it pertains to bestowing discipline onto flight attendants. This cherry picking of which deadlines and policies to uphold when it best suits the company is the precise reason that our flight attendants feel like they cannot efficiently communicate, rely on or put trust in those who are intended to lead.
Management presented this restructure to us claiming it was intended to mend the relationship between themselves and their flight attendants. Starting off day one by leaving bases without leaders, or so much as a backup contact in the interim shows exactly how much they value that relationship. They proudly announced in yesterday’s email that the Base Manager will be our “direct leader and primary contact” and informed us the position was still open, yet provided no replacement contact for your needs. They once again went with their “one size fits all” approach and sent a generic email to all bases informing you that your CAM was onsite to assist with Attendance issues. If they had put any effort into each bases email you would have received the correct information detailing that we share a CAM with DCA, and he visits BOS when he can. When your base leadership advocated recently for our own dedicated CAM, we were brushed off and told that due to our low absenteeism rates there was no need. Our reward for the best attendance in the system is a sometimes weeks-long wait for a simple reply to an email.
The Individuals responsible for these decisions and lack of communication are below. Please send them an email respectfully informing them of your disappointment with the failure to communicate pertinent information in a timely and effective manner.
- Bobbi Wells, Vice-President of Inflight and Base Operations
[email protected] - Beth Williams, Director of Base Operations
[email protected] - Adrian Martin, Senior Regional Manager

Sample Email:
I am writing to express my disappointment that amidst the Inflight Management re-structure, my base in BOS has been left without a Base Manager and with no contact from anyone about who will fill in to support us in the meantime. We have managers in place to discipline us for Performance and Attendance matters, but no one to support us when we have questions related to anything. I respectfully request to know who my contact is in the interim with no Base Manager, and I request that a communication be sent to all Flight Attendants at my base with the same information.
It is past time that American Airlines drops the double standard. We will not allow them to hold our Flight Attendants to unattainable expectations of perfection while allowing their own representatives to drop the ball at every opportunity.
In Solidarity,
Luke Williams
