7.03.25 – APFA BOS Base Brief – Contacting Your Base Reps/Meetings with Management/IROPs

Boston Flight Attendants,

A Simplified Way to Contact your Base Reps

Boston, your base leadership is very excited to announce the launch of a brand new joint phone number for your base representatives! This number is a one-stop shop for any assistance from BOS APFA and supports texting and calling.

We saw a need for this very early on in our term, as often one of us will be conducting meetings at the airport or virtually for 6-8 hours in one day, and receiving texts/calls the entire time. Reaching out to the shared number will ensure that if another one of us is available during these times, they could respond, cutting down on unnecessary wait times. It means that rather than guessing which person is the best to reach out to, you have a means of contact that allows the first available representative to assist.

We understand that there are some needs of a more sensitive or personal nature when a Flight Attendant wishes to speak directly with either Kea or Luke. This ability is not being taken away. When calling the APFA BOS number, you will have a short directory of options; one of those will take you to Kea, and one will take you to Luke. A major goal of our term is to train the members of the base council to assist with Flight Attendant questions regarding contractual language, scheduling, FMLA/PFML, and more. As that training continues, this change will allow us to specialize a handful of our reps and utilize them to get you the help you need as soon as you need it.

Meetings with Management

As you all know, American Airlines management has undergone a restructuring beginning June 9th. Not only has this changed the responsibilities of specific managers and increased the number of contacts each Flight Attendant must maintain, but it has also been used to re-work internal processes. One such change is that the company has cracked down on Managers sharing information with the union without Flight Attendant consent. While contractually, a Flight Attendant is obligated to notify APFA when they need representation, in the past, it was common practice for management to inform APFA representatives of the time and nature of a meeting and allow us to reach out to the flight attendants to offer representation. This is no longer the case.

APFA representatives system-wide are no longer being informed of meetings, and the company is enforcing the CBA Language that requires that a Flight Attendant notify us themselves, claiming privacy concerns. If you have any scheduled meeting, phone call, or informal touch-base with a manager, we continue to recommend requesting union representation. Understand that at this time, you will need to contact your base representatives to inform us of the time and place of your meeting. You may contact BOS APFA at 617-362-0052 or email us directly at our APFA addresses.

IROPs

The last week of June was riddled with IROPs, and we have been working on resolving many issues that came out of those with you all. Many Flight Attendants have already reached out with pay issues, scheduling errors, hotel delays, and other contractual violations. As a reminder, after experiencing irregular operations, it is beneficial for APFA if you take the time to fill out the IROPs Report. This is used as a data collection tool to help our Contract and Scheduling chairs identify the number, type, and severity of company deficiencies when the operation is not going to plan. This information is used regularly in meetings with upper management at Skyview to address some of the biggest concerns affecting our members.

We wish everyone a happy 4th of July weekend!
