7.03.25 – APFA ORD Base Brief – August 2025 Staffing and Allocations

August 2025 ORD Staffing and Allocations
Thursday, July 3, 2025
Happy July, Chicago!
The August staffing and allocations call was held today. August represents the tail end of the summer flying, so there is a reduction in hours and flying for August.
Below is a quick recap of what to expect for the company plan for August.
July Incentive Point / Critical Period
July 1 – July 7
As a reminder, we are in the Critical Period per the Attendance & Performance Policy.
During the July Critical Period, which is from July 1 to July 7, if you complete all operational assignments (sequences, airport standby assignments, Reserve Availability Periods (RAPs), and special assignments) without any absences or removals (such as Sick, FMLA, Jury Duty, Military, Personal, Bereavement, etc.), including pre-planned absences and removals, you will earn one (1) incentive point. These incentive points will help reduce future point-generating dependability events.
You can earn up to three (3) incentive points per year, and there is no limit on the total number of incentive points you can accumulate, and they do not expire.
For questions about your banked point or the critical period, be sure you reach out to the company as this is their policy, and they should be able to speak to it:

Important Dates
- Schedule change August 6th, there is a reduction of sequences and flying systemwide starting August 6th
- Labor Day – Monday, September 1
Allocations
There are a handful of 787 domestic sequences throughout the month, DFW and LAX turns.
New Hire classes have concluded for the year, we will not see any new hires in the month of August.
Staffing
ORD has a reserve percentage of 22.2% for August vs the system average of 22.8%.
Sequence Starts per Day
With the schedule change at the start of the month, you will see a gradual reduction in sequence starts throughout the month.
Sequence Distribution
- 1-day: 27% in August vs 28% in July
- 2-day: 20% in August vs 21% in July
- 3-day: 50% in August vs 49% in July
- 4-day: 3% in August vs 3% in June
- ODAN Starts per day: 8.3 in August vs 13.1 in July
ODAN reduction was driven by fewer departures in the evening banks, causing the system to build less ODAN flying than we have seen in the past few months. 30% of flying is wide-body aircraft.
