7.19.25 – APFA PHL Base Brief – A Message From Your Base President

Hello PHL~

On June 24th, I experienced a significant medical event that required brief hospitalization. I am doing well with the full confidence of my doctors and am on the road to recovery.

It is important to share with our PHL Membership how our local Union team stepped up to help our base continue to represent and support our co-workers in PHL.

Our Base Vice-President, Mitch Hake, did exactly what one would hope a VP would do when a sudden turn of events sidelines the Base President. Without hesitation, Mitch took the reins with his calm and knowledge to manage the complexities of the work required to represent our PHL FAs.

Mitch was able to do what was necessary with the support of many of our BCRs. Our BCRs stepped up to fill in on areas that needed attention.

I want to thank the following people for stepping in when we needed them the most:

I am home and doing very well. In fact, I have been working remotely from my home participating in virtual meetings as well as conference calls.

Since my medical event came on suddenly, I was not able to set up my Union email with a forwarding message that would have redirected emails to the Base VP. Hence, I am currently sorting through and/or responding to over 600 emails.

Your patience and understanding is appreciated as I work on responding to your emails.

I would be remiss not to extend thanks to our local base management. While we sit on opposite sides of the “table”, their concern for my health and their willingness to work with Mitch, scheduling meetings with FAs, was so greatly appreciated.

For those who have reached out sending your well wishes, all I can say is every message has assisted me in my recovery.
