1.24.26 – APFA BOS Base Brief – Winter Storm Fern

Winter Storm Fern

Saturday, January 24, 2026

Boston Flight Attendants,

The BOS APFA team is handling an influx of calls and messages related to Winter Storm Fern and the related rescheduling, operational factors, and commuter challenges. We want to provide a few reminders to proactively assist our Members. Due to the extreme weather, the company plans to cease operations at BOS on Sunday the 25th at 1200, with the current plan to resume operations on Monday the 26th, at 1200.

Commuter Policy – CBA 37.I

If you are a commuter who is trying to get to base for an assigned sequence or reserve obligation, ensure you are familiar with the language in CBA 37.I to cover yourself in the event you cannot make your commute. Be sure to keep any physical documents showing that you were at the airport, including boarding passes and standby listing cards from any airline. To receive a Commuter Missed Trip recode, you will need to submit substantiation to your CAM via the Comply365 form. Click here for more information on the Commuter Policy.

Reminder: Pursuant to CBA 37.I.5, a flight attendant can have up to (3) non-chargeable commuter missed trips within a rolling 12 month period.

Do Not Report Sick in ECS for a Failed Commute

Management will not recode a sick call to a commuter Missed Trip. Please call Crew Scheduling and inform them that you are unable to commute. They will process it as a Missed Trip (TM) pending review from the CAM.

Mobile Online Support: ‘On the Job’ Tab at APFA.org

The APFA website features an On the Job section that breaks down contractual language into more approachable phrasing, along with examples of how it applies. This includes both Lineholder and Reserve rescheduling language, pay protections, legalities, and more.

Reminder: You can view DECS Add/Removal codes online at APFA.org to determine if you are pay protected when removed from a sequence by Crew Scheduling.
