Important Message for All New York Based Flight Attendants

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency as a significant winter storm is expected to bring blizzard conditions, heavy snow, strong winds, and limited visibility to New York and New Jersey this weekend. Snowfall totals are forecasted between 12–18+ inches, which could make travel dangerous or even impossible.

We have seen Flight Attendants placed in difficult situations during past severe weather events, and I am encouraged by the significantly improved communication and clear direction management has provided to Flight Attendants through CCI during this storm. It remains important that we all stay informed by carefully reviewing communications from both APFA and management. Please make every reasonable effort to contact Crew Scheduling if you know you cannot report or anticipate being late.

That said, no code on your schedule is more important than your safety. Do not place yourself in an unsafe situation to protect a schedule code; your safety comes first. Communication and documentation remain critical. Stay on hold as needed and document all attempts to contact Scheduling, including call logs, screenshots, and names of those you speak with. This allows us to advocate effectively once operations stabilize.

Yesterday, I began discussions with upper management on proactive measures to protect our members, including the critical issue of employee parking accessibility and safety. We will continue advocating for practical support to help ensure you can report safely and return home safely.

OPERATIONAL REMINDERS DURING IROPS

Let’s face it, during IROPs, extended hold times are inevitable. Please take proactive steps to protect yourself contractually and operationally:

Snapshot Everything

• Take a screenshot of your pairing prior to report.
• Snapshot any changes made to your pairing.
• Save all documentation.
• If ECS, calls or any communication fails, make a note of it, you will need it

Know Your Duty Limitation Time

Please review the On-Duty Limitation charts. Calculate your max duty time before departure so you know exactly when you time out. If you are scheduled for a layover, coordinate with your Purser or FA #1 regarding pickup or departure changes, as well as how you will communicate. Click here for help calculating your legalities.
