4.09.26 – APFA DFW Base Brief – Year One: Listening, Advocating & Delivering

Year One: Listening, Advocating & Delivering
Thursday, April 9, 2026
April marks one year since we took office. We want to take a moment to reflect on what we heard from you—and, more importantly, what has been accomplished.
Over the past year, we expanded support for our DFW members by implementing weekend Base Representative coverage and dedicated phone support, ensuring access to assistance beyond the traditional weekday schedule. This standard was established to better serve our base and remain accessible when Flight Attendants need support most.
From the outset, three key concerns were consistently raised across our base:
- Lack of respect for members’ days off
- Inadequate support during IROPs
- Declining conditions in crew rooms and Quiet Rooms
These issues were not new—but they had gone unaddressed for far too long. From day one, our focus has remained clear: listen, advocate, and deliver.
Respect for Members’ Days Off
Through continued advocacy, we secured a long-overdue shift in expectations regarding your time.
Flight Attendants should not be required to attend investigatory or 35R meetings on their days off unless they choose to.
When a meeting is required on a day off:
- Members must be compensated
- Union representation must be offered
- If the member declines, the trip is removed and addressed accordingly
This is about restoring respect for your time—both on and off duty.
Stronger Support During IROPs
You made it clear that support during operational disruptions was falling short. Based on your feedback and continued advocacy, we have seen meaningful improvements.
Flight Attendants should not be expected to absorb the impact of IROPs-related failures. The responsibility to repair disrupted sequences and restore operational continuity rests with management. These corrections must be carried out in a way that respects our time, upholds our contractual protections, and preserves the integrity of the operation.
As a result of your voices and ongoing advocacy, we have seen:
- Increased management presence during disruptions
- Extended CSC/MOD coverage
- Continued availability of snacks and water in crew lounges
- Expanded Quiet Room access during IROPs
These improvements matter—especially when the operation is under pressure and support is essential.
Crew Room & Quiet Room Improvements
The condition of our crew rooms and Quiet Rooms was unacceptable and long overdue for change.
Improvements now underway across DFW include:
- New recliners arriving April 28
- Quiet Rooms being restructured to remain dedicated rest spaces
- Terminal A crew room relocated to a larger, quieter location
- Installation of a new ice and water machine
- Addition of charging tables with multiple connection ports
- Continued development of separate areas to preserve rest environments
These are not cosmetic upgrades—they are necessary improvements to your daily working conditions.
Looking Ahead
Progress has been made—but the work is not finished.
- Operational challenges remain
- Consistency in discipline must improve
- Quality-of-life issues still require continued focus
We will continue to push—because that is what you deserve.
Our Commitment
We remain committed to:
- Transparency
- Accountability
- Protecting seniority and fairness
Most importantly, we remain committed to you.
