April 2026 Mid-Month Brief
Hello, Miami!
Stay Informed and Empowered
While these scheduled briefs provide a steady rhythm of information, your leadership team remains ready to dispatch BREAKING NEWS and URGENT UPDATES as situations evolve. Our goal is to ensure all 3,800 Miami-based Flight Attendants are informed, protected, and empowered.
Action Items for the Membership
- Verify Your Subscription: Ensure you are signed up to receive official APFA emails, so you never miss a critical update.
- Spread the Word: Encourage your fellow Flight Attendants to subscribe. A well-informed base is a strong base!
The more we know, the more we can achieve together.
LHR Catering
Last week, I filed a Base Notice of Dispute (NOD) regarding the Company’s ongoing failure to address the concerns and increased workload on flights to and from LHR. This NOD requests that the Company compensate every F/A and crewmember who has worked LHR flights since the catering debacle began in late February. Any updates regarding the catering issue or the NOD will be communicated through a Base Brief.
We are asking for any photos or factual statements regarding any LHR flights that F/A’s have worked. Please send any documentation to [email protected], and in the subject line, note that it is regarding LHR catering.
Miami APFA Base Survey: Fly Safe, Stay Loud
The Miami APFA has launched the Miami Bid Sheet Survey and will close on April 30th. This initiative focuses specifically on trip construction, and your feedback is essential to its success.
Our Goal
A dedicated Miami Bid Sheet Committee has been established to oversee the creation, distribution, and analysis of this data. Our objective is to present management with real-time, actionable insights that reflect exactly how the Miami Base wants our trips to be structured. By providing clear data, we can advocate more effectively for the changes you want to see.
How You Can Help
To ensure our data is impactful, we need a high level of participation across the entire base.
Participate
Please take a few moments to complete the survey once it opens.
- Encourage your fellow crew members to share their voices.
- Download the Miami Base Bid Sheet Survey QR code and share with fellow crewmembers.

Once the survey concludes, the results will be shared directly with the Miami Membership. When we speak with one unified voice, our collective influence is at its strongest. FLY SAFE, STAY LOUD!
Stay Safe/Stay Alert on your Layovers
Heightened vigilance should not be limited to any one destination or region. Whether you are flying internationally or domestically, situational awareness is imperative. The threat landscape has heightened, and we must remain alert.
Get your ZZZZs – Know the Hotel Delay Language
Compensation for Hotel Delays: CBA 6.B.5.a
To be eligible for Hotel Delay Compensation, you first need to experience a schedule modification (RS, Cancellation, or other schedule change) that requires a layover. Once you have the schedule modification, CS/CT has 3 or 4 hours (as applicable CBA 10.J.3-4) to notify you of your hotel. Should they not make the timeline, then the Hotel Delay Compensation enters the chat. If the company notifies you of your accommodation within the first hour, then there is no additional compensation. If they notify you more than 60 minutes (1hour) but less than 2hours and 59 minutes, you are entitled to 150% of the Duty Period preceding the layover. If you are notified after the 3-hour mark, you are eligible for 150% of the sequence.

CQ – Be Prepared
This April, the 2026/2027 CQ classes have begun, and there are some changes to be aware of before attending.
New with CQ – You now have the ability to “Test Out” for many of the WBT modules. You may do this by earning 100% on the quiz prior to doing the module.
Door Drills – The FAA is taking a closer look at our training. This year’s program will provide FOUR TOTAL DRILL ATTEMPTS. You will still receive the voluntary drills and a First Look drill prior to CQ starting on Day 1. If you are successful in completing your drill, you will receive credit and not be required to do that drill on day 2.
Day 2 (If you did not complete the drill on Day 1)
Here is what four attempts look like:
1. If you do your drill and miss something, you will talk it through with the instructor.
2. If attempt #2 is unsuccessful, you will have a discussion with the instructor.
3. At the end of the day, you will have your 3rd attempt. If you are unsuccessful, you will be sent home QI.
4. You will be scheduled for a final attempt within 7 days.
EFB Gone Missing
Friendly ASAP/EFB Reminder from Your Union: Know Your Protections
- If you lose your EFB, be sure to file an ASAP within 24 hours. If the report is accepted, the company cannot issue discipline.
- If you discover that you operated a flight while your tablet/iOS/Comply (or other required systems) were out of date, file an ASAP as soon as you become aware. If accepted, no discipline may be issued.
- If you begin your duty day in a non-compliant status (below 90%), file an ASAP within 24 hours. If accepted, you are protected from discipline.
Stay informed, stay protected, and don’t delay in reporting.
You typically have only 24 hours from losing the tablet OR being notified of non-compliance to file your ASAP.
Crewmembers Selected for Random Screening
- Uniformed – Have access to TSA PreCheck lanes, granted front-of-line privileges, and eligible LAG exemptions.
- Non-Uniformed – Have access to TSA PreCheck lanes, not eligible for front-of-line privileges, and not eligible for LAG exemptions.
- The KCM program does not exempt a KCM participant from complying with any additional screening conducted at or beyond KCM access points.
- KCM participants selected for random screening must proceed directly to the appropriate screening lane, as directed.
- If a KCM participant is referred to an alternate screening checkpoint, failure to directly proceed and submit to screening at the passenger-identified screening checkpoint (e.g., using a Secure Identification Display Area badge to avoid screening or proceeding to another location before the screening checkpoint) is considered circumventing screening. TSA may take enforcement action, including potential civil penalties as well as disqualification from the KM program in accordance with the KCM Disqualification Protocols.
NOD (Notice of Dispute)
For any issues that require APFA to file a Notice of Dispute (NOD), please complete the APFA NOD Filing Request Form. This will automatically be submitted to your MIA representative, who can investigate your claim, provide feedback, and file the Notice of Dispute as necessary. Please provide supporting documentation, such as HI3 and HI1 reports.
Your Miami APFA representatives are here to support you and hold the company accountable for its shortcomings. If the Company and Management fail to correct their errors or do not help resolve your operational issues, please reach out to us.
Reserve
Reserve Out of Base
We continue to have many allegations regarding reserves not in position to accept an assignment while on a Reserve Availability Period (RAP). The Company is aggressively enforcing the requirements of CBA Section 12.H.1. You must be able to report to the airport within three (3) hours for a MIA/FLL/PBI trip while serving a RAP based in Miami.
If you are on reserve and you have a triggering event, such as a TM (no contact, trip missed), MT (missed trip), LC (late call out or sick on contact), or a late request of a PO (personal off), the Company will conduct a travel audit and compare it to your reserve schedule. They will then conduct a 35R investigation. During this investigation, they will pull your travel history, including past and current AA listings, and other airlines. They will use other evidence to substantiate their claim that a Flight Attendant was not in position to report within the contractual timeline while receiving guarantee pay when they are not available for work.
We have numerous investigations across the system regarding this topic. Many of these investigations have resulted in termination, even after just one incident, regardless of employment duration or exigent circumstances.
APFA strongly disagrees with the Company’s position and decision to terminate Flight Attendants in these situations. Termination is extreme, and we will continue to challenge each of these terminations.
RAP Scheduling Assignment Limitations
The Sequence Report time of an assignment may be no later than 2 hours after your RAP ends, but scheduling must call during your 12-hour RAP with the assignment. After speaking with Crew Scheduling, you have two hours (three hours in a co-terminal base, MIA) to report for an assignment.
As an example, someone on RAP B, which runs from 0500 to 1700, at 1645 could be assigned a sequence report of 1845. They would have until 1945 to report for this assignment.
Grooming Checks are Increasing
Whenever you are wearing the uniform in public, whether it be working on the plane or walking through the terminal, management is out there actively conducting grooming checks. Please do your part by being familiar with and following the American Airlines Inflight Uniform and Image Standards. Please document any uniform compliance checks and inform APFA at [email protected].
Staying Dues Current with APFA
If you have a dues balance with APFA, you can pay online at apfa.org when you log into your account.
In Solidarity,
Nick & Alba
