In Memory of Flight Attendant Margaret “Maggie” Yawger
It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Margaret Yawger, known to all of us simply as Maggie. Maggie began her career with American Airlines in 1987, dedicating thirty-eight years of service and Union pride as an APFA member, right here in New York. She dedicated herself fully to her profession while maintaining an equally deep commitment to her family and community.
Maggie leaves behind her husband, Rick, and three wonderful sons whom she always raved about. She was a pillar of support to everyone around her, whether she was on the jets, in her community, or at any of the destinations she worked to around the world. Known for her direct, warm, and distinctly New York approach, Maggie wore her heart on her sleeve. People always knew exactly where they stood with her, and if you needed something, she made sure you got it.
Beyond her work, Maggie was deeply committed to her Union, answering every call to action and never missing a function, always showing up for the people and causes she believed in. What made Maggie truly remarkable was her resilience. Even as she battled health challenges and underwent aggressive treatment, she continued to work, driven by her unwavering devotion to her family and her refusal to let anyone else carry that burden.
As the LGA Base President, representing nearly 3,400 Flight Attendants in New York, I carry the comfort and privilege of having known Maggie personally. Her support was never something I had to ask for, it was always there.
To her husband, Rick, and her three sons:
Please know that Maggie was truly one of a kind. The impact she made on all of us in New York—both her Union family and her American Airlines family—will never be forgotten. Her kindness, strength, and friendship touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to live on in our hearts.
Maggie, our world is better because of you, and it will never be the same without you. May you rest in eternal peace until we meet again.
With love and solidarity,
New York APFA
