Accountability – Barbara T.
After reading the following, I am sure you will agree the message all comes down to accountability. Who is responsible for these mistakes, and who is ultimately accountable – and are those individuals being held accountable for their errors in judgment? At the end of the day, those errors in judgment cost my company, American Airlines (AMR) money. When AMR loses, then I lose. And I am a very sore loser!
Some interesting questions that come to mind:
Who is responsible for purchasing those bulky, stuffy duvets in F/C? How much did they initially cost? How much is it going to cost to replace them? Was it ever taken in to consideration those duvets are a safety issue? Is the person responsible for those duvets held accountable for that decision?
AA spends $25,000 per month purchasing corkscrews. Why not issue a corkscrew to every flight attendant. If we lose it – then we can purchase another from Wings. AA would rather spend the $25,000 per month than issue a corkscrew. Who is responsible for this decision? Is the person responsible for this decision held accountable?
About 5 years ago AA closed the Admirals Club in BNA. However, AA still pays the rent on the lease – to the tune of $22,000 per month. This makes no sense to me. It would be the same as if I owned a rental house and did not rent it out, but kept it vacant and continued to pay the mortgage. Who made this decision? Is that person held accountable for that decision? Fortunately, the Admirals Club is reopening in BNA next month.
I am sure you have plenty of waste issues you see every day. It just floors me how these individuals somehow receive a pat on the back for a job well done. The job just doesn't seem well done to me.
Take care, and fly safely
