PICKETING for FAA REAUTH
The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) has invited APFA to a picketing event at DFW next Tuesday August 16 to bring attention to the FAA Reauthorization.
The temporary extension reached last week will only last until September 16, 2011.† The FAA has not been formally authorized on a long-term basis with a full bill since September 2007.
Picketing will be from 1000-1400 CT in front of DFW Terminal B.
Additional picketing locations for August 16 are ATL, PHX and SEA. Please check the AFA Government Affairs Website for additional information.
VERIZON WORKERS ON STRIKE
As of midnight this past Sunday, more than 45,000 workers represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) are on strike at Verizon Communications up and down the east coast.
The CWA reported on their website that since bargaining began on June 22, Verizon has refused to move from a long list of concession demands amounting to $1 billion per year – roughly $20,000 for every worker – as Verizon’s top five executives received compensation of $258 million over the past five years.
“The APFA fully supports Verizon’s union workforce,” said APFA President Laura Glading. “We share their plight and know it all too well. Year after year, AMR executives award themselves exorbitant bonuses while the employees continue to struggle to make ends meet. It appears that Verizon’s management has joined the nationwide assault on the middle class. The APFA is proud to stand with their brothers and sisters at the CWA and IBEW as they take their fight to the streets.”
