The National Ballot Committee’s policies and procedures are governed by the APFA Constitution, the APFA Policy Manual, and the guidelines of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (LMRDA) established by the Department of Labor. Each modification or update to Policies for our Elections and Balloting undergoes meticulous review by APFA legal counsel and consulting our local Department of Labor representatives to ensure compliance and integrity.
The National Ballot Committee urges all members to verify that APFA has your current mailing address to ensure you receive your election ballot if your base is holding an election by January 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM (CT). Please note that even if you’ve updated your address with American Airlines, this information is not shared with APFA. This is particularly important for members who have recently moved or relocated.
To update your mailing address or contact information, please login to APFA.org and click on “My Account” and “Update My Info”. If you need help logging in to the website, please CLICK HERE or you can contact the APFA Membership Department to make updates to your information at: [email protected] or 817-540-0108, ext. 3.
The Importance of Running for a Base Representative Role
Running for a Base Representative role, whether as a Base President, Base Vice President, or Base Council Representative (BCR), is not only a chance to step into leadership, but is also a critical responsibility that directly impacts the lives of our flying peers and members.
These roles are the foundation of APFA’s strength, ensuring that every member is represented, heard, and supported. Base Representatives play a vital role in maintaining communication between the National level and the base level, leading local base efforts to address grievances, and overseeing the day-to-day operations that ultimately keep our Union functioning effectively.
Each of these roles comes with unique responsibilities, from investigating grievances and overseeing APFA activities at the base to representing the base’s members at conventions, meetings, and working closely with various APFA Departments and Committees. Running for a Base Representative role means becoming a voice for your fellow flying peers, providing expertise in contract interpretation, health and safety, and more.
It’s a significant commitment that requires strong leadership, communication, and a dedication to advancing the rights for our profession. By stepping into these roles, you not only help shape the future of our Union but also strengthen the solidarity and support system that every APFA member relies on.

The National Ballot Committee has been working diligently over the past few years to transition back to electronic voting for our regularly scheduled Representative Elections. However, due to the unclear guidance from the Department of Labor (DOL) regarding electronic voting methods, the National Ballot Committee has decided to use paper balloting sent by mail for the upcoming 2025 Base Representative Elections.
On Monday, January 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM (CT), the National Ballot Committee will host a virtual candidate forum. All candidates are strongly encouraged to attend to gain insights and detailed information on the election process and to ask any questions they may have.
As we approach the 2025 Base Representative Elections, please visit Union Elections on APFA.org for updates. We will provide additional information and a link for those who need to request a duplicate ballot after balloting has opened.
Transferring Bases on/before March of 2025
Members interested in running for office must be permanently based at the base they wish to represent on the date ballots are counted, which is March 14, 2025, as outlined in Section 14.J.3 of the APFA Policy Manual.
For members transferring bases in early 2025, Section 14.K.6 of the APFA Policy Manual stipulates that Ballots for base representative election(s) will be mailed to all members who are permanently based at the affected base as of the date of the ballot count, which is March 14, 2025.
Since 2020, candidate booklets have been provided electronically in accordance with the APFA Policy Manual. These booklets will be accessible to all members on the Union Elections page of APFA.org starting February 12, 2025, the same day ballot packages are mailed.
Additionally, a QR code will be printed on the voter information page included in your ballot package, allowing you to scan and access the candidate booklets directly. If you prefer a printed Candidate Booklet, you can request one to be mailed to your home address via the form on the Union Elections webpage once they are posted. Candidate information will remain available throughout the balloting period.
