6.09.25 – Inflight Management Restructure Begins Today

Inflight Management Restructure Begins Today
Monday, June 9, 2025
American Airlines’ new vision for Inflight Base Operations begins today. As this transition rolls out, some details remain unclear. If you have questions or need support, please contact your managers first, preferably in an email for documentation. American Airlines management should be your primary resource for resolving questions and concerns—and it’s time 28,000 Flight Attendants hold them accountable, starting with this new Inflight restructure.
Here’s what has been shared so far…
As part of this restructuring, management has promised dedicated subject matter experts, stronger terminal support, and a team of performance specialists. Management’s focus with this new structure is to meet Flight Attendants in our workspaces- the aircraft and the terminal gates.
The new structure and the four roles are as follows:
- Sr. Crew Managers will serve as your primary contact for all questions and issues not related to attendance or performance. In BOS and LGA, your Base Manager will serve as your Sr. Crew Manager. These managers should be available primarily at the gates and in the terminals.
- Inflight Operational Coordinators, formerly known as MODs or Duty Managers, will also be present in the gates and terminals to assist you with day-to-day work issues, along with Sr. Crew Managers.
- Crew Performance Managers is a newly created role that will be your primary contact for all performance-related issues.
- Crew Attendance Managers will continue in their role addressing all attendance matters, Injury on Duty (IOD) questions, maternity, leaves of absence, and attendance policy questions.
APFA has been told that this restructuring is to offer support for Flight Attendants, not for administering compliance checks and discipline. Managers should not be roaming the airport looking to issue discipline or add unnecessary stress to our already demanding workday. Approaching it this way will only lead to the program’s failure.
Sr. Crew Managers and Inflight Operational Coordinators should be knowledgeable about our contract, including rest provisions, reserve, rescheduling, legalities, deadhead changes, and hotel/ transportation issues.
Q & A
Q1. Where can I locate information on my managers, and how do I reach them?
You should have received an email with the names of your assigned managers and their contact information.
Q2: I have questions about an Injury on Duty (IOD), sick calls, maternity, FMLA, Jury Duty, any Leave of Absence, specific state disability, or state-specific sick policies. To whom do I reach out?
These questions should be directed to your Crew Attendance Manager (CAM).
Q3: I have a specific question not related to performance or attendance. To whom do I reach out?
Your Sr. Crew Manager (Base Manager in BOS/LGA) is responsible for all day-to-day questions not related to performance or attendance. Inflight Operational Coordinators will also be in the terminals to assist with questions and issues.
Q4: I’m confused about this new structure. Who can I reach out to for clarification?
Contact your Sr. Crew Manager or Crew Service Center for assistance.
Q5: What about IROPs? Will management be present? That is when we need the most help!
Sr. Crew Managers and Inflight Operational Coordinators should be in the terminals equipped with mobile technology to assist during IROPs. These managers should help with legalities, hotel and transportation issues, and rescheduling questions.
Q6: My managers have been unable to answer my questions. What is my next step?
If you are not receiving support from your managers, please immediately make your APFA Base Leadership aware so they may reach out to the appropriate base contact and resolve the situation. Information on how to contact your APFA Base Leaders may be found on the APFA website here.
Q7: I am concerned about the accuracy of an answer received from my manager. Who may I reach out to for help?
APFA Base and National Representatives are always here to assist you. When contacting APFA, please include the name of the AA manager(s) with whom you spoke and share any written correspondence so we can quickly and effectively address any breakdowns in management support.
In Solidarity,
