11.11.25 – APFA Honors America’s Veterans

In 1938, legislation was established to designate November 11th as a legal holiday to honor our veterans. Initially called Armistice Day, this day was dedicated to promoting world peace and recognizing the sacrifices of World War I veterans. In 1954, Congress made a significant change by renaming the holiday Veterans Day to honor all veterans, including those who served in World War II and the Korean War. Additionally, in October 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first Veterans Day Proclamation, marking a commitment to acknowledge the contributions of veterans throughout our nation’s history.

The United States is home to about 17.6 million veterans, with women making up 12% of this diverse group. Of those, 5.3 million have served since September 2001, facing unique challenges such as health issues and disabilities, nearly half having service-connected conditions. 15% of these recent veterans have found federal jobs, showcasing the effectiveness of hiring programs and support initiatives.

Throughout history, the brave members of the United States Armed Forces have fought to secure our freedoms during both wartime and peacetime. We honor and thank all veterans, including our APFA members, who have served and continue to serve in combat. We are grateful for your dedication and sacrifice to our nation.
