10.10.24 – Hurricanes Helene and Milton- Letter of Agreement

Hurricanes Helene and Milton:
Letter of Agreement

Thursday, October 10, 2024

Many Flight Attendants have been impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. APFA has reached a Letter of Agreement (LOA) with the company to provide some special arrangements for Flight Attendants based in MIA and CLT, as well as those that commute from those areas. These arrangements include:

  1. Use of vacation days to cover lost hours.
  2. Recoding of missed trips (TM), Personal Days (PO) and “unable to commute” absences, rendering them non-chargeable attendance/dependability events.

You may opt to use vacation days to cover lost hours due to Hurricanes Helene and/or Milton if any of the following apply to you:

  • You experienced a full sequence (XI) cancellation that was not otherwise pay protected per CBA provisions.
  • You had a missed trip (TM);
  • You had a CBA-qualifying Unable to Commute;
  • You requested a PO.

You may use unscheduled vacation days (days not used because of a leave of absence) from 2024/2025, unused filler days from 2024/2025, or scheduled vacation days to receive pay for trips originating September 26-30, 2024, and October 8-12, 2024. You may use any amount of vacation days for these trip(s). The vacation days must be placed within the period spanning the first day of the first impacted trip through the last day of the last impacted trip. For example, you had a 3-day trip originating on September 27th and another 2-day trip originating on October 10th. The vacation day(s) would need to be placed in the period from September 27th through October 11th. The vacation day(s) may only be moved to a day that has no paid activity.

As a reminder, blocks of less than seven vacation days are paid at 3.30 hours per day. Blocks of seven or more vacation days are paid at 4.00 hours per day. If you use vacation days from an existing block and less than seven days remain, that vacation block will be paid at 3.30 hours per day.

Reach out to [email protected] by 1200 CT on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, to exercise this option.

Personal Days, Missed Trips, Unable to Commute

  • If you took a PO, received a TM or were unable to commute and were covered by the commuter policy between September 26-30, 2024, and October 8-12, 2024, the absence will be nonchargeable under the attendance policy. A recoded Unable to Commute will not count as one of your contractually allowed 3 incidents per rolling 12-month period (CBA 37.I.5).
  • Email your Crew Attendance Manager and request they recode the absence, including a brief summary of the reason for the recode request.  This request must be related to the impact you experienced from Hurricane Helene and/or Milton. The absence must be approved and recoded by your CAM by October 25th. The recode must be completed prior to requesting the use of vacation time.

If you have extenuating circumstances or suffered a hardship as a result of Hurricanes Helene and/or Milton, reach out to your CAM for individual assistance.

APFA Representatives are ready to assist you. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
