It is with great sadness that we share the passing of retired Flight Attendant and longtime APFA advocate Carole Ann Stevenson on February 6, 2025, in Dallas, TX.

In 1977, shortly after APFA was certified as the official Union representing American Airlines Flight Attendants, Carole was appointed by APFA’s founding President, Patt Gibbs, as APFA’s first Employee Assistance Program (EAP) representative. At the time, no EAP program existed at American Airlines. Drawing from her own experience with recovery, Carole worked closely with AA’s Medical Department to establish an EAP program for employees, playing a crucial role in shifting the perception of alcoholism from a personal failing to a treatable disease.
Thanks to Carole, a formal EAP program was created, and she took on the role of EAP Coordinator. She later became a certified EAP counselor and, after transferring from DFW to LAX, continued her advocacy by helping develop EAP programs for major companies in California following her retirement from American Airlines.
Carole helped countless Flight Attendants reclaim their careers, but she also provided support and guidance to their families and friends. On behalf of all of the Members of APFA, we extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Carole.

A Celebration of Carole’s life will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of:
First Baptist Church
1001 N. Central Expressway
Richardson, Texas, 75080
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, First Baptist Church, Richardson TX, or Animal Rescue of Texas.
In remembrance and with gratitude,
