FACT Rep Update – June 25, 2014
FACT: The week of June 30th the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) will meet with the APFA Board of Directors and the US Airways Master Executive Council in DFW to present the Tentative Agreements that have been reached and update them on the progress of negotiations under the Negotiations Protocol Agreement. The JNC will also produce a comparison chart of the Tentative Agreements for the membership later this summer. This chart will include comparisons of current language from both contracts with the agreed to language for Flight Attendant review.
FACT: APFA has not yet been served with the Complaint in this case, nevertheless, we understand that there is an action by a group of former TWA flight attendants who, under the guise of challenging the recent agreement between APFA and the Association of Flight Attendants (“AFA”) in connection with the merger of American Airlines and US Airways, are seeking to undo the integration of the American Airlines and the TWA Flight Attendant Flight Attendant seniority lists that was accomplished in 2001. APFA will save for appropriate court filings its defenses to the claims in the Complaint. For now, we can say without hesitation that the lawsuit has no merit whatsoever. The Flight Attendants from both American and TWA have lived under this seniority integration for 13 years and neither the 2013 merger with US Airways nor anything else is a basis for undoing the results of that integration.
FACT: As we announced last week, the interim reciprocal jumpseat agreement for travel on AA/US metal went into effect on June 20th. Please click here for an overview of the agreement and click here for a Q&A related to the agreement.
FACT or Fiction
Q: One rumor suggests that we will adopt the US Airways’ method of arriving for our pre-flight briefing to select our cabin positions by seniority.
A: Fiction. Currently, US Flight Attendants are able to bid for specific positions and they will continue to bid by position when they convert over to a Preferential Bidding Service (PBS) in the fall. Eventually, when we migrate to PBS, we will also continue to bid for positions. As part of the negotiations process of the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement the US and AA negotiating teams are looking to preserve the best of both agreements.
