Hello DFW!

I would like to introduce myself and our DFW Team to the DFW Membership.

My name is Maureen Walsh-Martin, your newly elected DFW Base President, along with Chris O’Kelley as Vice President.

Chris and I have scheduled our first Base Council Representative (BCR) meeting on June 7, 2017. We have 50 BCR’s on the DFW Team.

We also have many part-time BCR’s and volunteers.

Chris and I would like to remind everyone that the APFA DFW Team is available to the membership 24/7. Starting June 1, 2017, the APFA office is going to be open every day in Terminal A ops. The office is located in operations across from the luggage room.

Hours will vary:

Monday-Wednesday-Friday
9-4pm

Tuesday and Thursday
10-5pm

Saturday and Sunday
1-4pm

Please stop by and say “Hi”

We have implemented the following committees to address base concerns:

Bid Sheet Committee chaired by BCR Laura Hansen. If you would like to share your concerns, ideas and suggestions, please email Laura at [email protected]

Reserve Committee chaired by BCR Justin Hammer. We will meet with Justin and the committee every 6 weeks to go over all issues concerning the Reserve System.

We are in the process of implementing a Speaker Committee chaired by BCR Laura Wallace. We are looking for CM, CC, or KO speakers who would like to fill a few more language positions on the committee.

In Op crew bunks

1.   For flights seven (7) hours or more scheduled flying time, but not exceeding twelve (12) hours scheduled flying time, one (1) regular Main Cabin passenger seat will be provided on a one-for-one for each Crew Rest Seat which is unusable.

2.   For Flights over ten (10) hours scheduled flying time on 777/787 aircraft configured with bunks, (1) regular Business Class passenger seat will be provided on a one-for-one basis for each bunk which is unusable, if a Business Class passenger seat is available. If a Business Class passenger seat is unavailable, a Main Cabin Extra (MCE) passenger seat will be made available. If a MCE passenger seat is unavailable, a Main Cabin passenger seat will be made available.

*** Remember, the 777-300 has 8 bunks, so if ALL 8 777-300 bunks are inop, YOU ARE ENTITLED to 8 passenger seats***

Interim Pay Protection (IPP)

We are still hearing that a lot of FAs are losing their Interim Pay Protection (IPP) due to not following the correct procedures. Here are the charts for Before Sign In/After Sign In/Reserve Originating a Trip:

From DFW Base Vice President Chris O’Kelley:

Domestic and International Boarding Times

We have been receiving reports of early boarding on some flights, please reference Section 11M and 14F of the JCBA or page 9 of the “On Duty Contract Guide” As a reminder, Flight Attendants are NOT required to have passenger boarding begin earlier than the published times. It is a direct violation of our Contract to board early. If you are challenged to board early, respectfully remind them of our contractual language. If there is a total disregard, contact your local DFW APFA representatives. Below are the Domestic and International Contractual boarding times.

Domestic
30 minutes prior to departure for A/C with less than 165 passenger seats
35 minutes prior to departure for A/C with 165 or more passenger seats

International
45 minutes prior to departure for all NIPD departures
50 minutes prior to departure for all IPD departures

From DFW BCR Mark Arceneaux  :

Critical Incident Response Team

The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is now in its third year as an additional feature of the Critical Incident Stress Management Program at American Airlines. Peer Support Volunteers are trained in rendering emotional support and advice along with techniques and suggestions on how to cope with the complex emotions and thoughts we often feel after experiencing a traumatic event. Volunteer Flight Attendants work under the direction and assistance of a Team Base Coordinator at each Base and contact fellow crew members who have had a serious event while on or off duty and offer help.

The Critical Incident Response Team is completely confidential service and provides valuable suggestions to Flight Attendants during times of emotional turmoil.  Line Flight Attendants can also seek confidential assistance directly by contacting a Peer Support Volunteer at 1-800-998-8194. This number is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Critical Incident Response Team is a jointly sponsored program between the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) and American Airlines and works very closely with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) in offering a comprehensive approach to Critical Incident Stress Management.

After experiencing a critical incident, Flight Attendants may receive a call from a Peer Support Volunteer. A training program for new volunteers will be scheduled later this summer. The program also conducts a Critical Incident Stress Management conference which is held for 3 days in October of each year and all Peer Support Volunteers are eligible and encouraged to attend this advanced training.

If you are interested in becoming a Peer Support Volunteer on the Critical Incident Response Team or would like additional information about the program, please send your name, employee number, email address and telephone number to the DFW Critical Incident Response Team Base Coordinator, Mark Arceneaux, at [email protected]

From National Retirement Specialist Ron Harris:

A common question we are getting is the Age Based Contribution end date. Per the Conditional Labor Agreement, the employer contribution based on age will continue thru the end of 2018. Starting with the first paycheck in January 2019, all LAA Flight Attendants hired before 2012 will revert to the contractual agreement that offers a 3% company contribution and 2.5% company match.  Until that time, the age based remain in effect:

39 and under: 5.5% company contribution
40 to 49: 6.75% company contribution
50 and over: 9.9% company contribution

The Plan is to hold another retirement seminar in Dallas mid to late summer at the Yandry Center across from Gate C2. Once a date had been finalized, the seminar will be posted in the hotline and on the APFA website.

Thank you,
Fly Safe,

In Unity,

Maureen, Chris and your DFW APFA Team
