4.16.25 – Election Cycle Change Under the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act

Election Cycle Change Under the
Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act
Wednesday, April 16, 2025
APFA has received a determination from the Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) with changes to the organization status of APFA and the National Officer election cycle.
OLMS conducted a review of the labor organization status of APFA under the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA). OLMS determined that APFA is a local Union, not a national Union, for the purposes of LMRDA election cycles. Because of this determination, OLMS instructed APFA to comply with Title IV Union officer election requirements of the LMRDA for local Unions, which require it to hold secret ballot National Officer elections, open to all its members in good standing, on a three-year election cycle, instead of the current four-year cycle.
APFA Legal and the Board of Directors are currently reviewing this decision. We will share additional information as it becomes available.
