I am in dues arrears. When is the last day I can pay my past dues in order to be able to cast my strike authorization vote?

Per the APFA Constitution Article VI Section 4.D, “Any active member in bad standing must arrange to become an active member in good standing not later than the close of business on the fifth (5th) day prior to the time limit for the return of ballots (the balloting date) of any election or referendum.”

To vote in the strike authorization vote, you must be dues current by Thursday, August 24th, at 1700CT. If you are not in good standing by this deadline you will be unable to vote in the strike authorization vote.

‘We Are Ready!’ pins may be obtained from Contract Action Team (CAT) Members in your crew base. CAT Members will be in the crew bases every day throughout the month of August.

Are strike authorization votes even worth it? What is the point?

A strike authorization vote is a necessary part of the process and is essential to reaching the contract we deserve. Flight Attendants and Pilots at other carriers have utilized the leverage behind a strike authorization vote. Some recent examples include:

• In November of 2018, Frontier Flight Attendants voted 99 percent to authorize a strike. In May of 2019, Frontier Flight Attendants ratified a new, five-year contract. Beyond significant pay increases, the agreement included better pay protections, schedule flexibility and protections, improvements for reserves, better vacation, and quality of work-life enhancements.
• Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants concluded a successful strike authorization vote in November of 2019, with a 99.9 percent vote to authorize a strike and 95.1 percent participating. In April of 2020, Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants voted to ratify a new five-year contract.
• In October of 2022, Delta Air Lines Pilots voted 99 percent to authorize a strike, with over 96 percent of Members participating in the vote. In March of 2022, Delta Pilots ratified a new, industry-leading contract.
• American Pilots voted 99 percent to authorize a strike in May of 2023, with 96 percent of Pilots participating. The Pilots have reached a tentative agreement and will begin a ratification vote soon.

We must send a strong message to American Airlines management that Flight Attendants are united and willing to fight for the contract we deserve.
