Welcome to the New Hire Flight Attendants!
Your fellow flight attendants are so excited that you are joining our ranks. It's been too long since we've had new hires at American.
At first, everything may seem a little overwhelming, but once you spend a few days on board the aircraft with your more-experienced co-workers, you'll feel like you've been here your whole life.
The Association of Professional Flight Attendants is the official bargaining representative for all of the US-based flight attendants at American Airlines. APFA is also the largest independent Flight Attendant union in the nation, representing ONLY American Airlines Flight Attendants. All APFA Representatives are also AA Flight Attendants.
APFA's Headquarters is just a few miles from the DFW Airport in Euless, TX. National Officers work primarily out of union headquarters and are elected by the entire membership to four-year terms.
National APFA Departments
The 6 National Chairs, appointed by the President, also spend the majority of their time at Headquarters during their two-year terms.
There are 7 Regional Representatives, who are appointed by the Vice President. The Regional Representatives are responsible for grievances, notices of disputes and other issues that cannot be resolved on a local level. The Division Representatives work primarily from their home offices when not attending arbitrations, meetings, training, etc. Like the Coordinators, they serve two-year terms.
You also have 14 Base Presidents (APFA Board of Directors) that represent each of the base cities (international and domestic) throughout the country.
And finally, the Executive Committee, which is comprised of five flight attendants elected by the Board of Directors as agents of the Board. They serve three-year terms - these terms are staggered.
