Seventeen years ago today, US Airways flight 1549 made an emergency water landing in the icy waters of the Hudson River after losing thrust in both engines due to a bird strike shortly after takeoff from New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

1.11.26 – 2026-27 Annual Vacation Buyback Closes Tomorrow

The Annual Vacation Buyback process will close tomorrow, Monday, January 12 at 12:00 PM (CT). In accordance with 2024 CBA Section 8.F., Flight Attendants have the option to buyback a portion or all vacation days accrued during 2025 (carryover days are excluded).

APFA is accepting resumes for the following positions: National Balloting Committee (minimum of 4); Regional Representatives (8); National Department Chairs (Communications, Contract, Health, Hotel, Injury on Duty (IOD), Safety/Security, Scheduling), etc.

12.11.25 – Contract Implementation Update #47: ECS Sick Update

You may now use the Electronic Communication System (ECS) to report sick for a sequence any time before your originating flight actually departs. Up until today, you could not use ECS to report sick within 3 hours (or 4 hours for co-terminal bases) prior to origination.

APFA has secured a Letter of Agreement (LOA) related to the reserve acknowledgment issues. The issues occurred from October 1st through November 18th, 2025, and were resolved by November 19th, 2025.

11.28.25 – Airbus Fleet Software Update: Contractual Protections and Support

We were just notified that a required software update for the Airbus 319/320/321 fleet will begin today. The update is expected to take about two hours for most aircraft; however, some aircraft may need to be removed from service to complete the fix.

The Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Crewmember Access Point (CMAP) program will continue its phased rollout beginning the week of July 12th, with DFW and ORD joining the growing list of participating airports.

7.08.26 – ROTA/ROTD Acknowledgement Receipts in ECS

We continue to receive reports of reserve acknowledgement issues. In some cases, Reserve Flight Attendants are properly acknowledging assignments in Crew Portal, but are later assessed a missed trip because the acknowledgement was not successfully recorded.

7.07.26 – NASEM: Flight Crewmember Radiation Exposure Requires FAA Action

A new congressionally mandated report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) confirms what APFA Flight Attendants have long known: radiation exposure is an occupational hazard that deserves stronger oversight and protection.
